Global effort needed to stop Israeli crimes: Commentator

Press TV has interviewed Seyyed Mostafa Khoshcheshm, a political commentator in Tehran, to discuss the remarks by Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif calling on Muslims across the globe to strengthen their unity against Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Talk to us about the recent comments made by Foreign Minister Zarif stating that Iran remains adamant in its support for Palestinians in their resistance against the Israeli occupation and aggression?

Khoshcheshm: Well as a matter of fact when this illegitimate regime was created, many kept silent and it was aided by the UK and the US and now there needs to be a global effort in order to stop or at least to tame the beast using every global potential that exists at international bodies. This is something that Mr. Zarif is good at, I mean bringing binding resolutions against the Israeli regime and pressuring its sponsors and supporters like the United States.

There are also other efforts that need to be made. One is continued and increased global efforts, public efforts by the people through their demonstrations, continued demonstrations. They should show their support for the Palestinian cause and show their resistance and complain and protest against the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians.

Also there needs to be more efforts, wider efforts in the BDS, Boycott, Divestment and Sanction policy that is now on the increase in Europe and several other parts of the world. The OIC (the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) was created at the beginning in order to pursue this issue, the Palestinian issue. It was created for the sake of helping the Palestinians against the Israeli regime and it is expected to make much more efforts and to remain committed to its cause.

Also as the Iranian Supreme Leader stated a couple of times now for the last two years, Iran will continue supporting the Palestinian Intifada and as the Iranian Leader has stressed the people in the West Bank should also be armed with weapons in order to stop the Israeli atrocities and oppression and military operations that claim hundreds of lives each year.

A couple of years ago, they killed thousands of people in there in Gaza and resistance, armed resistance in Gaza, is not enough. All Palestinians that have been cornered in the east and west, they should rise with much more energy and much more global support and much more spirited, in more spirited ways in order to show that they will stand against the Israeli regime to the end.
