Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says participants at the 11th session of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) will discuss the main issues facing the Muslim world.
“There are important issues in the Muslim world which will be discussed in [the Iraqi capital of] Baghdad in the presence of parliamentary officials of Muslim countries,” Larijani told reporters in Tehran on Saturday ahead of his departure for Baghdad to attend the PUIC meeting.
He added that the meeting would offer an opportunity for friend countries to improve their relations.
“This session and the participation of parliamentary authorities of Muslim countries will be an opportunity for friend and neighboring countries to strengthen mutual and multilateral relations in political and economic fields,” Larijani said.
The Majlis speaker noted that during his visit to Iraq he would also hold talks with Iraqi officials on ways to improve cooperation.
The PUIC was established in Iran on 17 June 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran. The 10th session of the PUIC was held in Turkey in January 2015.
