Taliban have captured 13 Afghan soldiers after their helicopter went down in territories controlled by the militants, local police say.
Local police chief Sayed Aqa Saqeb said on Tuesday that the transport helicopter crashed in the northern province of Faryab for unknown reasons.
He added that three troops were also killed in the crash and that security forces were currently engaged in an operation to rescue the survivors.
A US defense official has denied reports that US soldiers were among the Afghan captives.
The Taliban militant group has made no comment on the incident so far.
Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity 14 years after the United States and its allies attacked the country in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. Although the attack overthrew the Taliban, many areas across Afghanistan still face violence and insecurity.
