A new report says, a British bishop escaped abuse charges 22 years ago after intervention by politicians and royal family.

The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, commonly known as the Old Bailey heard that some MPs, a lord chief justice, a member of the royal family and public school headmasters all intervened to stop Peter Ball being prosecuted for sexual abuse 22 years ago. Ball was facing jail after admitting last month the sexual abuse of 18 young men between 1977 and 1992 when he was bishop of Lewes.

Media reports say, he escaped justice when his first victim complained in 1992 after interventions from leading figures in the establishment. Instead of being prosecuted he was given a caution.

Bobbie Cheema QC prosecuting said: “The police report that accompanied the papers sent to the CPS in 1993 after the police had done their work stated they had received telephone calls supportive of Peter Ball “from many dozens of people – including MPs, former public school headmasters JPs and even a lord chief justice”. She added that a member of the royal family and cabinet ministers also sent letters of support.

Reports said, Ball was a close friend of the Prince of Wales, who gave him a cottage on his Duchy of Cornwall grounds after he was cautioned in 1993.

As a result of the intervention, Ball was never charged with the indecent assault of Neil Todd, who later killed himself. 22 years on, he finally confessed grooming exploiting and abusing vulnerable young men who came into his orbit.

Ball is being sentenced on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to two indecent assaults on two young men and misconduct in public office relating to the abuse of 16 young men in September this year.

International Lawyer, Barry Grossman slams politicians for their judicial interference.

In an exclusive interview with Press TV, Grossman said:"They do so because first, in the UK people are entitled to all the justice they can buy; not more and not less. When it comes to matters such as these, to say nothing of corruption related crimes, it doesn’t require a calculator to work who, between the perpetrators and the victims, is in a better position to purchase the justice they are entitled to. Second and perhaps more importantly, senior members of the British establishment are happy to run interference for their peers because the simple fact is that they are pretty much all cut from the same dirty old soiled rag. It’s a club and like most clubs, membership comes with privileges.”

He went on saying that there is no shortage of hard evidence that sexual perversion is almost a condition precedent to being a member of the British political establishment.

“With recent news about Prime Minister Cameron’s use of narcotics and his sexual feats with the head of a dead pig, to say nothing of recent front page photos of Baron Sewel  - the former Labour Minister, House of Lords deputy speaker and, get this, chairman of the Lords privileges and conduct committee - wearing lingerie and snorting cocaine as he partied with two prostitutes, it is fair to presume that it is mandatory for anyone who considers themselves a member of Britain’s political elite to be a pervert. They certainly get enough training at it when, as lads, they attend their elite public schools,” he added.
