Two Syrian civilians killed, 5 injured in militant mortar attack
At least two civilians have lost their lives in a mortar attack carried out by foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants against a residential area in Syria’s capital city of Damascus.
A local police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said two civilians were killed and five others sustained injuries when a mortar shell fired by the militants struck the Adawi neighborhood of Damascus on Monday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.
The development came only a day after four people, among them two children, were injured when a mortar round slammed into the Bab Touma neighborhood of the capital.
The projectiles also caused damage to several houses and buildings at the targeted area.
On September 26, four people sustained injuries when six mortar shells fired by the so-called Jaysh al-Islam militants struck the city of Harasta, located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of Damascus.
Later in the day, four civilians were injured when a militant rocket hit the Jub al-Jandali neighborhood of Homs, located 162 kilometers (101 miles) north of Damascus.
On September 20, fourteen people, including seven children, lost their lives and 25 others sustained injuries when mortar shells fired by militants struck the al-Maidan neighborhood of Aleppo, located 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of Damascus,
Two girls were also hurt when a mortar round landed in the Adawi neighborhood of the city.
Additionally, three people suffered injuries when a mortar round launched by Takfiri terrorists slammed into the Christian- majority village of Maaruna, which lies on the outskirts of Damascus.
The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now.
