Iran’s national junior water polo team has experienced its third defeat in a row at the 18th edition of Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) Junior Men’s World Water Polo Championships in Kazakhstan, slumping to Mexico.
On Tuesday and day five of the sporting event in the city of Almaty, the young Iranian athletes went down to the Mexican side 18-13 in a Group C encounter.
The loss came a day after Iran lost to Australia 15-5 in its second match.
Iran had been pitted against Australia, Mexico and Serbia in Group C. Croatia, Egypt, Montenegro and South Africa were drawn in Group A.
China, Greece, Hungary, Japan and the Netherlands were in Group B. Canada, Italy, Kazakhstan, Spain and Uzbekistan formed Group D.
Iran’s national junior water polo team is scheduled to play against China on Wednesday to secure a place in the 13th to the 18th slot of the FINA event.
The 18th edition of the FINA Junior Men’s World Water Polo Championships started in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on September 4, and will finish on September 12.
The FINA Junior Water Polo World Championships is an international water polo tournament held every two years for the players under the age of 20. It was launched by FINA in 1981 for men and in 1995 for women.
