The Russian foreign minister has announced a plan to hold a joint meeting with his American and Saudi counterparts in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Moscow announced that Sergey Lavrov is set to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry and Qatari Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir during Lavrov's 48-hour visit to Doha on Sunday.

Kerry, who is currently on a tour of regional countries in the Middle East, is scheduled to arrive in the Qatari capital on Sunday.

Lavrov will be discussing regional issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Iraq, the Saudi aggression in Yemen and the unrest and instability in Libya, as well as the purported international efforts to battle the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group.

The trilateral gathering will also explore the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in resolving regional conflicts, following the conclusion last month of a nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1, which included Russia.

Russia is currently at loggerheads with the US and Washington’s European allies over the conflict in eastern Ukraine; however, US President Barack Obama has acknowledged Moscow’s positive role in reaching the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Iran and the P5+1 countries  - the US, the UK, China, France, Russia, and Germany -  reached an agreement on July 14, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Under the JCPOA, Iran will pursue limited and supervised nuclear activities in exchange for a number of commitments by the opposite side, including the lifting of all economic and financial sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic.
