10 people shot on Detroit basketball court, 1 dead

A man is dead and nine others were hurt in a shooting in Detroit.

Police in the US city of Detroit say they are investigating a shooting that has killed one person and left at least nine others injured.

The gunfight occurred at Dexter Avenue and Webb Street in Detroit at about 9:00 p.m. Saturday, killing a 20-year-old man and injuring 9 others, including 6 men and 3 women.

About 400 people were at party enjoying a basketball game when the gunman opened fire, with witnesses saying they grabbed their children and ran out of the court.

According to Detroit Police, two weapons were used and the shooter may have intended to kill one man.

The man, who was killed, was struck multiple times, police said, adding one person was hospitalized in critical condition.

There is no information available as to whether the incident was a drive-by shooting or somebody just walked up.

The shooting happened just three days after a man opened fire in a church in the US state of South Carolina, killing nine black people.
