Iraqi government forces have taken back another town in the western province of Anbar from the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group.

Adhal al-Fahdawi, a member of Anbar’s local council, said on Saturday that Iraqi soldiers, backed by Shia and Sunni fighters, recaptured the town of Husaybah.

Fahdawi also stated that the Iraqi forces raised the Iraqi flags over state institutions in place of those of the ISIL.

The town is located midway between the Habbaniya military base and Anbar’s provincial capital of Ramadi.

The Takfiri terrorists have been pushing to reach Habbaniya, which housed a large number of government forces and volunteer fighters.

Also on Saturday, security officials said the joint forces of the Iraqi army and the volunteer fighters repelled an attack on the town of Khalidiya by the ISIL militants attempting to retake control of the town, located about 83 kilometers (50 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad, which was liberated after the terrorists were driven back on Friday.

In addition to Anbar, Salahuddin Province, in the northern portion of Iraq, has also witnessed advances made by the Iraqi forces.

On May 21, Iraqi troops, backed by volunteer forces, broke the siege on the embattled Baiji refinery in Salahuddin, liberating some 300 soldiers in the process.

Qais al-Khazali, the head of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq volunteer forces, said the group and the security forces in Salahuddin successfully carried out the security operation to break the siege on Baiji refinery.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been in chaos since ISIL started its campaign of terror in early June 2014. The army and volunteer forces have been engaged in joint operations to liberate the areas under the ISIL control ever since.
