Israeli settlers destroy 250 olive trees in West Bank

Israeli settlers have reportedly set fire to a Palestinian olive grove in the occupied West Bank, destroying up to 250 trees.

Local Palestinian sources said the attack occurred north of the city of al-Khalil (Hebron), on Monday.

The fresh assault comes a day after Israeli settlers vandalized around 80 acres of land planted with olive saplings near the town of al-Shuyoukh, situated northeast of al-Khalil.

According to Palestinian sources, over 800,000 olive trees have been uprooted by Israeli settlers since 1967.

This is while the olive industry is a main source of income for many Palestinian families.

Settlers, mostly armed, regularly attack Palestinian villages and farms and set fire to their mosques, olive groves and other properties in the West Bank under the so-called “price tag” policy.

Price tag attacks are acts of vandalism and violence against Palestinians and their property as well as Islamic holy sites by Israeli settlers.

The attacks are carried out with impunity. Palestinians say the violent attacks by Israeli settlers are systematic and are often ignored by Israeli officials.
