The Malvinas Islands dispute between the old colonial power Britain and the Argentinean government has taken a new twist. Newly leaked documents by whistleblower Edward Snowden played as a game changer revealing that Britain has been actively spying on Argentina. The covert operation codenamed “Operation QUITO” has been a “long-running, large scale, pioneering effects operation.” GCHQ’s mission on Malvinas Islands is not merely restricted to Argentina and extends way beyond Malvinas island territory and even Argentinean borders targeting South American leaders and attitudes.
The British establishment’s “dirty tricks” have not been limited to sovereign countries. Just weeks prior to the 2015 general elections, London has launched a systematic covert war against nationalist parties in Scotland and Northern Ireland. London regards nationalist movements across the country as a matter of national security.
