The SNP emerged with the merger of the National Party of Scotland and Scottish Party in 1934. The party has widened its campaign and support over the past years turning it to be the third largest political party with respect to membership after Labour and Conservative in the UK. Currently, the SNP is the largest political party in Scotland in terms of membership. Since 1979 elections, the party has increased its performance gradually from 2 out of 71 seats in Scotland to 6 in the last election.  It has maintained its support base variably up to 20%.

 

Election promises:

• Increase free nursery hours from 16 to 30 per week

• Continue no tuition fees for Scots students

• Continue to build and refurbish schools and make progress on smaller class sizes, starting with early years

• New school heads to have masters qualification
